We’ve already reached #Bond_age_ IMPOSTOR #8? Time flies when you’re twattering. Once again we put the IMPOSTOR choice to a vote. Our first vote resulted in Our Man Flint. And again we return to the golden era for spy flicks with the quirky, crafty, kitschy MODESTY BLAISE starring Monica Vitti and Terence Stamp. It doesn’t get more mid-60’s than that does it? I have not located a source for streaming Modesty Blaise online so I will again come up with an alternate viewing method for those without the DVD (as I did with the Matt Helm in Murderer’s Row). Look for the link to pop up on Wednesday.

It snuck up on you, didn’t it? Back when we were doing Connery, it seemed like decades away. But then we hit GoldenEye and out of self preservation, you just put it out of my mind. I’ll worry about it later… not today… just later. Welp, #Bond_age_ fans, the week is upon us. The Die Another Day Live Tweet looms. The Madonna fencing cameo. The interminable climax about the plane. Parasurfing. But you know who’s going to deliver us from these evils? Jesus Bond. He’ll be there. Rosamund Pike will be there too. They’ll make everything okay. And don’t forget the booze. I can’t remember the last time we actually gave Bond good #Bond_age_. All the way back in the depths of 2013. Ages. Eons even. Are we rejoining for top tier Bond? Ehhhh….. It’s hard to argue that we’re not on the downslope of the Brosnan years. That’s not to say that #TWINE has nothing to offer. #TWINE has a lot to offer… and then, well… you know. But that doesn’t mean we’re not talking about prime live tweet potential. Consider this your warm up live tweet for #DAD.

The Proto-#Bond_age_ Holiday edition for Charade proved to be so popular I again sought to enlist the mother/daughter duo of @MiddParent and @NitrateDiva to host another. And as we tossed about ideas for their follow-up, one name kept popping into my mind. Sherlock.
Thus, #Bond_age_ presents Proto-#Bond_age_ Vol. 2: the Sherlock Holmes Double Feature.
Other than James Bond, what character could be considered as timeless or prolific — as cross-generational? (Somewhere I heard someone say Zatoichi.) Played by a number of different actors. Derived from a literary source. Why hasn’t the “Time Lord Theory” expanded to include Sherlock Holmes as well? Sherlock Holmes is the brainy James Bond. Conversely, James Bond is the charismatic Sherlock Holmes. I’ve even referenced Sherlock in one of my #Bond_age_ essays. And as it turned out, our hosts are Holmes junkies. It had to be done. The only problems: choosing the Holmes and choosing the episode. The Holmes, for me, was a no-brainer. Basil Rathbone. Prolific and definitely Proto. For the episode, I wanted to find a plot regarding a matter of international importance to relate more closely with Bond. And of my favorites I settled on Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon (available on YouTube and Amazon Prime Instant Video). But The Secret Weapon is a relatively brief outing for a live tweet. Amazon streams a double feature of The Secret Weapon and Terror By Night. Bingo. One international plot and one traditional local Holmes whodunnit on a train! I’ll post links to the movies through Amazon and YouTube on the day of the live tweet.

Do you miss Party Moore? Do you wish we could bring him back, just because? Well, you’re in luck because we’re doing just that! It’s time for #Bond_age_ IMPOSTOR #7: the FFOLKES live tweet!
Lucky number seven brings us a seafaring daring-do starring Roger Moore, James Mason (Archer’s spirit guide!) and Anthony Perkins, not to mention THE David Hedison (aka the other Leiter that didn’t suck). Screenwriter Jack Davies also penned Those Magnificent Men in Those Flying Machines (for which he was nominated for an Oscar) so you know we’re talking quality.
