Tomorrow Never Dies Live Tweet

This Wednesday is not only the wraparound Tomorrow Never Dies live tweet, it also marks the 1-year #Bond_age_ anniversary!

Or #Bond_age_versary, if you will. I hope everybody stops by for at least an obligatory tweet during the presentation. Consider it your birthday present for Party Moore. But don’t be stingy with the snark, it really dresses up a tweet, like a nice ribbon.

The James Bonds celebrate the 1-year #Bond_age_versary

But first we have other matters to attend to. Namely revisiting the TOMORROW NEVER DIES theatrical trailer.

GoldenEye Live Tweet

It’s that time of year again… when we throw up our Christmas trees while drinking cappuccinos laced with spirits in red Starbucks holiday mugs and listening to a rotating vinyl collection of John Denver and the Muppets, the Tijuana Brass and Christmas in the Stars. This year, however, it also happens to be the season of 00-Fluffy. That’s right, the Fluffmeister is back to warm your frozen cockles with more #Bond_age_.

This Wednesday at 9pm EST, it’s the GoldenEye Live Tweet. Follow #GoldenEye hashtag.

Proto-#Bond_age_ Vol. 1: Charade

Charade can be viewed through Netflix Streaming, Hulu or YouTube (the movie is in the public domain so you can pretty much find it anywhere)… so here’s an embed for your convenience. Enjoy this special presentation of Proto-#Bond_age_ Vol. 1 hosted by @MiddParent and @NitrateDiva. The show starts tonight at 9pm EST.

Here’s a link to the Hulu page if you want to watch the film in it’s native environment. I warn you, however, that the print used for this video looks like it was used as a bike chain.

Charade Live Tweet

Though #Bond_age_ had planned to take a week off for the Thanksgiving holiday, there seems to be no rest for the espionage included. And this, friends, is an awesome thing.

That said, I introduce to you the first edition of Proto-#Bond_age_! CHARADE starring Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Walter Matthau and IMPOSTOR favorite James Coburn.

Released in 1963, the Stanley Donen-directed Charade sets itself apart from the similarly styled espionage films of the 1960’s because it places a female at the center of the drama. Additionally, the Connery-driven machismo of the Bond films instigated an entirely new direction for the espionage-thriller. Charade comes directly out of an older Hollywood model, trading largely on the charisma and star-power of its two leads Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. Charade is at once a contemporary espionage film and an old-fashioned 1950’s romance. In that way, Charade reflects the films that formed Bond’s roots… but it is far more mindful of the genre’s tropes. It subverts genre and audience expectations both in terms of narrative and the characters played by it’s established stars.

Danger: Diabolik! Live Tweet

With the changeover from #TheSmolder to #00Fluffy, it’s time again to break for #Bond_age_ IMPOSTOR #6: Danger: Diabolik!

Plus I need some time to keep the essays on schedule. Danger: Diabolik! has been billed as the movie James Bond would have made if he were, well, the bad guy. Directed by Mario Bava, Diabolik! is a stylish Euro-spy flick with lofty aspirations. Sure it was riffed by MST3K in their final episode, but most everyone agrees that was a supremely bizarre choice. This isn’t Catalina Caper or even Mitchell we’re talking about. Danger: Diabolik! is a fantastic, genuine spy flick. If you’ve never seen the un-MSTied version, you must join us on Wednesday, November 20th for the Danger: Diabolik! Live Tweet. The movie can be found on YouTube in its entirety. I’ll post the embed on the #Bond_age_ page the day of the session.
