For many, #BOND_AGE_ IMPOSTOR #9 was just a quick detour before Skyfall, but OSS117: Cairo, Nest of Spies is anything but a quick, harmless detour. The OSS117 films starring Jean Dujardin are some of the most successful 007 spoofs of last twenty years, if not ever. Jean Dujardin doesn’t mimic Connery, but his performance is specifically meant to recall the demeanor of the most famous Bond. And he does so with panache. This was our first foray into live tweeting a foreign film, so I do hope the OSS117 Live Tweet Digest adequately reflects how much fun we had with this movie.

Can you believe it?
I definitely can’t believe it.
The #Bond_age_ project has traversed the 23-film Bond franchise twice, plus 11 or so detours for IMPOSTORS! and Proto-#Bonds. TWICE! I feel like Jeremy Piven’s character in Grosse Pointe Blank. TEN YEARS!!! TEEEN YEEEEEARS!!! Except, of course, substitute two times. TWO TIMES! Whenever I hit these landmarks I get a little teary-eyed thinking about all the great live tweets and amazing people I’ve met on Twitter because of this project that started on a whim back in November of 2012.
After Skyfall, however, I’m going to take a little bit of a break from the rigors of #Bond_age_ hosting to tackle the laborious writing side of the project. #Bond_age_ isn’t over, but we’re going to be trying some new things while I focus on finishing the essays and compiling the book. @GregMcCambley begins his #Bond_age_TV series. We’ll do some more IMPOSTORS! and a #Proto, hosted by @MiddParent and @NitrateDiva. Keep a close eye on the schedule for the coming months. And if you have an idea about something you want to do, let me know. This project was always about the community.
All that said, this Wednesday, February 19th, it’s SKYFALL DAY, the unofficial semi-yearly-ish holiday of the #Bond_age_ project. We’ll celebrate Bond all day long, capped off with the main attraction, the live tweet of Bond #23, Skyfall at 9pm EST. Follow #SKYFALL hashtag.

The Quantum of Solace Live Tweet Digest should reflect the rather amenable (shocking) twattering over the much-maligned entry. All involved had a rather good time watching Mathis get tossed in a dumpster for his sins against exposition in Casino Royale, watching Craigers locate his golden solace and questioning the abilities of Atacaman contractors. We give birth to a new #Bond_age_ meme and question the efficacy of Canadian Intelligence.

In the #Bond_age_Pod Episode 2, we discussed some delectable delights that you, too, can make at home to worship your favorite James Bond.
Krissy’s Cookies:
Sean Connery’s Chocolate Toffee Bars
(Level of Difficulty: Low)
Ingredients
1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
¾ cup sweet flaked coconut
¾ cup toffee bits
½ cup slivered almonds
1 ½ cups all purpose flour
⅓ cup white granulated sugar
¾ cup unsalted butter, cold
1/4 tsp almond extract (optional)
1 can sweetened condensed milk
Instructions
PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Grease a 13″ x 9″ cake pan and line with parchment paper overlapping two sides for easy removal.
COMBINE chocolate chips, coconut, toffee bits and almonds in a large bowl. Set aside.
MIX in a separate bowl, flour, sugar and almond extract if using. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly using a pastry blender or two knives. Press firmly into prepared pan.
BAKE in preheated oven for 12 minutes, or until light golden
POUR sweetened condensed milk evenly over crust. Sprinkle with chocolate chip mixture.
RETURN to preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool; cut into bars. (more…)
