@MisterGreggles and I double-teamed you guys last week with a podcast/live tweet combination for If Looks Could Kill. You’re all very, very welcome. You never knew how much you needed more 26yo Richard Grieco, French Teachers, Linda Hunt, Robin from Cheers and early 90’s Gabrielle Anwar in your life.

I moonlighted on yet another podcast last week, appearing on the Nerd Lunch Podcast with Carlin Trammel (also of Pod, James Pod). In this episode we were given the ability to wipe a “thing” and a “person” from existence. I chose to erase Diamonds Are Forever and Joel Schumacher. In this episode I also manage to butcher poor John Gavin’s name by repeatedly pronouncing it “Gal-vin.” Poor John Gavin. I must have crossed wires in my head and somehow connected John Gavin with deadball-era, Hall of Fame Pittsburg Alleghenys pitcher Pud Galvin. Just think, if John Gavin had kept that gig as James Bond in Diamonds Are Forever, nobody would have ever butchered his name on a random podcast.

Pop Bond: James Bond in Bob’s Burgers
I started watching Bob’s Burgers last week and even selected it as The Best Thing I Watched – Bob’s Burgers on my other bl-g. In the sixth episode of the 1st season, a delicious James Bond / Live and Let Die reference pops up on the Burger-of-the-Day board, which is sort of like the chalkboard in The Simpsons. The “Olive and Let Die Burger” appears in what is still my favorite episode of the series (and not just because of the Bond pun). You can watch the entire episode by clicking through the above link to my 30Hz Bl-g where the episode appears in its entirety.
Every day in Bob’s Burgers, there’s a different fabulous burger pun/reference on the chalkboard. After the first couple of episodes the BOD (Burger of the Day) isn’t even mentioned by any of the characters. You’ll just have to remember to keep your eyes peeled when it pops up in the background.

Greg McCambley suggested this pairing. Without even testing it, I knew this track from Muppets: Most Wanted would be a perfect fit for the Goldfinger opening. I’m a little jealous I didn’t come up with it myself considering how much I love this song. The pace of Brownjohn’s editing almost perfectly matches the tempo of Cockatoo in Malibu.

I know this song from No Doubt may not have been a totally obvious choice… but follow me down the rabbit hole. If you pay close attention to the visual cues and how they play along with the lyrics in the song, suddenly Goldfinger becomes a love story between Bond and Goldfinger. Or at least a foregrounding of their latent Oedipal rivalry showcased in their competition for “mom” aka Pussy Galore. Really. Swearsies. I’m not making this up.
